Pet Foster Care Program Coming Soon
The Northeast Nebraska Humane Society is in the process of applying for our Foster Care/Rescue License.
As a result of the passage of LB 910 during Legislative Session 2009-2010, which takes effect, in part, on July 15, 2010, a new license category was added for animal rescues. Beginning October 1, 2010, all animal rescues operating in Nebraska are required to be licensed, pursuant to the Commercial Dog and Cat Operator Inspection Act.
Nebraska Revised Statutes 54-626 (2) states that:
Animal Rescue means a person or group of persons who hold themselves out as an animal rescue, accept or solicit for dogs or cats with the intention of finding permanent adoptive homes or providing lifelong care for such dogs or cats, or who use foster homes as the primary means of housing dogs or cats.
At this time we will be collecting names of those individuals that would like to provide foster care for pets. We will not be placing any animals in these homes or with individuals until the licensing process is complete and the license has been issued. Each person expressing the wish to provide such care will be subject to an application process through the Northeast Nebraska Humane Society and subsequent approval and inspection of homes/facilities. All foster care providers will have their information on file with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture as required by the licensing board.
